Can we talk about people who paint over aluminum windows?

I've been fixing up this old house near Old Town and the previous owner painted the aluminum windows. Now the paint is peeling and it looks worse than if they just left them alone. I spent 4 hours scraping one window last Saturday. Doesn't anyone know that you need to use a self-etching primer or just leave bare aluminum alone? Has anyone else dealt with this paint nightmare on their windows?

Four hours on one window? That's a special kind of homeowner punishment right there.

Man, I've been there. That one window that just fights you the whole way (stubborn paint, old caulk, the works). Four hours is brutal though, I think my record is maybe two and a half on a single pane before I gave up and called it a day. There's something about a window that just makes you question all your life choices, like why didn't I just hire someone? Hope your back is doing okay after all that, seriously.
