Caught my sprinklers watering at 2pm on a 95 degree day and wondered why my grass looked like crap

Ran the system manually for a year before I noticed the timer was set to noon start. Water was evaporating before it hit the roots. Anyone else find out their irrigation schedule was backwards?

And how long did it take you to figure out it was the timer itself, not some mysterious water pressure problem or bad soil? Because I feel like half these systems are set up by guys who just guess at the numbers and call it good enough. My neighbor spent two summers trying different sprinkler heads before he realized his controller was just straight up broken and stuck on a schedule from 2015. Makes me wonder how many people out there are dealing with bad equipment when they think it's their own fault.

Haven't overwatering been killing your grass that whole time instead?

Ran my system at 5am for two months before I realized the sun didn't matter since my grass was already dead from overwatering. It's funny how we blame the obvious thing like heat when the real issue is just that we didn't look close enough at the settings. Same with my thermostat last winter - was running the furnace full blast because I never checked the filter was clogged solid.
