Found black mold behind the grout in my shower, took 3 days to fix right
I pulled the caulk out of my shower corner last week because it looked a little off. Turned out there was a damp spot behind the grout that had been growing mold for who knows how long. I mean, I thought a quick scrub would do it, but the grout was soft in a section about the size of my palm. Had to rip out all the grout in that joint, treat the wall behind it with a mold killer, and let it dry for a full 48 hours. Then I had to regrout and seal it, which honestly took another half day because I kept messing up the mix ratio. What I wish someone told me earlier is to drill a tiny vent hole or check for moisture behind the tile before sealing anything up. Has anyone else found hidden moisture issues like this in Westside abq homes, and did you end up needing to replace whole tile sheets? I'm hoping my patch job holds past this monsoon season.
48 hours minimum or you're just wasting your time. Rushing it gives you that wet cardboard smell and the cure never sets right. Learned that the hard way after losing a whole batch because I got impatient. Patience is the whole game with this stuff, no shortcuts. Wait the full two days and you'll thank yourself later.
