I thought those cheap gutter guards from the hardware store were a total waste of money.

My neighbor in the North Valley put some on his house last fall and they got clogged with pine needles in two months. I ended up paying a local guy $300 to install the mesh kind with a solid top, and my gutters have been clear for over a year now. Has anyone else found a gutter guard that actually works with our Albuquerque mix of leaves and dust?

Yeah, that mesh with a solid top is the only thing that handles our dust and juniper berries. The cheap guards just let the fine stuff slide right through and pack in underneath.

My neighbor in Flagstaff had that exact problem last spring. His cheap guard let so much pollen and pine dust settle on the condenser that the unit overheated and tripped the breaker. He ended up spending more on the service call than a good mesh guard would have cost. It's one of those things where the right gear from the start saves you money and hassle later. The solid top really is key for keeping out the organic debris that causes the most issues.
