Just found out my swamp cooler needs a new motor every 5 years on average, seems wild

Was looking up how to clean the pads on my MasterCool and stumbled on some maintenance schedule thing that said the motor life expectancy is like 4-6 years in our climate. I've had mine for 7 and it's still going, but now I'm paranoid lol. Anyone else had theirs last way longer or am I just lucky?

This is just how everything works now, nothing is built to last anymore. Appliances, cars, electronics, they all have planned lifespans so you have to buy new ones. My parents still have a swamp cooler from the 80s that runs like a tank, but everything modern is designed to crap out right after the warranty expires. I notice it with my computer parts too, like hard drives that die right around year 4. It's almost like they did the math on exactly how long people will tolerate something before replacing it. So yeah, your motor hitting that 5 year window is probably just the universe confirming the pattern.

Oh man, I actually see it a little different. Plenty of stuff from the 80s and 90s was junk too, we just remember the good ones. My buddy's brand new fridge has a 10 year warranty on the compressor, which is way better than what my grandpa got with his old one.
