Lost $380 on a 'guaranteed fix-it' roof patch company
Last monsoon season I found a small leak in my living room corner and called this outfit that promised a 10 year guarantee on spot repairs. Paid $380 upfront for them to reseal around the vent boot on my flat roof. Two months later the same spot dripped during a decent rainstorm, so I called them back and they claimed the warranty only covered materials, not labor. They wanted another $200 just to reapply the same goop. I ended up buying a $25 can of roof sealant from Home Depot on Coors and did it myself in an afternoon, and so far it's held through three storms. I should've checked reviews first, turns out they had a 2.1 star rating with 14 complaints about this exact trick. Anyone else get burned by one of those cheap roof patch crews around town, or is there a legit company you actually trust for flashing repairs?
Did your guy also try the "we only cover the stuff, not the work" line? My buddy hired one of those door hanger roof crews over on the east side last spring, they sprayed some silver junk on his flashing and swore it was a permanent fix. Come July it leaked worse than before and water stained his whole ceiling, so he called them and they just stopped picking up the phone. He ended up paying a real roofer $450 to pull the old flashing and do it right, which was less than what he lost on the patch guys plus the water damage. Lesson he keeps telling everyone now is to check Google reviews before you hand over a single dollar.
