My neighbor swore by swamp coolers, I'm all in on mini splits now

I was chatting with Mr. Garcia from three doors down after his July AC repair, and he told me swamp coolers are the only way to go because they cost half as much to run. But I just spent $1,200 on a mini split install in my garage workshop and it dropped temps by 20 degrees in dry heat. Who's got the better bet for an Albuquerque summer, the old school evaporative guys or the new compressor crowd?

Oh dude, big question! So were you running the mini split in that garage when it was like 95 out, or was it a milder day? I feel like that makes a huge difference for whether it's really worth the cash.
