Rant: I just read that over 40% of home water loss in Albuquerque is from irrigation systems
Found this stat in a city water conservation report I picked up at the hardware store on Montgomery. It blew my mind because I always figured most waste was from indoor leaks or long showers. Now I'm torn between just fixing my old sprinkler heads or ripping the whole thing out for a drip system. What's the smarter move for an older house near the foothills?

That hardware store report is no joke, the city's been pushing those numbers for a while. Honestly, with an older house up there, you'll save more water and money in the long run going full drip. Fixing the old sprinklers is just a temporary patch, they'll probably break again next season.

My buddy in Tempe spent $400 fixing his old sprinklers last spring, then had to go full drip anyway when they broke again in July, just like jakeb25 said.

Actually, that city report was about new construction rules, not existing homes. They're only requiring drip for new builds, not telling people to replace old systems. Still, drip is way more efficient if you're already fixing things.
