Rant: my uncle swore by caulking the swamp cooler pad frame every spring and he was dead right
My uncle Larry has lived in Albuquerque since 1988 and he told me every April to run a bead of silicone where the pad frame sits on my cooler. I blew it off for two summers because it seemed like overkill, then last June I noticed water stains spreading on the ceiling in my hallway on Grape Ave. Turned out the frame gap was letting water blow back into the duct and I paid a guy $310 to fix the damage. Now I do the caulk thing every spring and I haven't seen a single drip in two seasons. Does anyone else tape or caulk their cooler housing before swamp season, or am I the only one who learned this the hard way?
