That leaking pipe I ignored almost ruined my whole laundry room
Was up in the Northeast Heights last month and noticed a small drip under my utility sink. Thought nothing of it. Figured it was just a loose connection. Left it for two weeks while I was busy with work. Came back and the drywall behind the washer was completely swollen and soft. Had to tear out a 4 foot section and replace the insulation behind it. The water had been running down into the crawl space too. Mold was starting to form on the wood beams down there. Cost me $850 to get it all fixed by a guy out of Rio Rancho. Has anyone else dealt with hidden water damage from a tiny leak they ignored?

You sure you didn't just get ripped off by that contractor? $850 seems steep for some drywall and insulation. Unless the wood was actually rotted through, which is rare from two weeks of a slow drip. I've seen people panic over a little mold on a joist that you could just scrub off with bleach and water. Sometimes these fix-it guys see you're worried and tack on charges for stuff that wasn't really necessary.

Could the insurance company have covered it if you'd reported the leak in time?
