Why is everyone in this town so against rain gutters?

I was talking to a roofer over on San Mateo and he told me half the homes in ABQ don't have gutters at all. I get that our rain comes down hard and fast, but all that water just dumps onto the foundation. After our last monsoon season in August, I checked my crawlspace and saw standing water. Has anyone actually had a contractor install gutters here and think it was worth the $1,800?

Those monsoon downpours hit different here, they come in sideways and overwhelm everything. Paid $2,100 for seamless gutters off Lomas last year and the crawlspace stayed dry through August, so yeah worth it if you can swing it. Biggest thing is getting oversized downspouts, the standard ones clog quick with all the cottonwood junk.
