Finally took a solo trip and the silence was overwhelming.

Learning to enjoy your own company is tougher than it sounds.

Actually have the total opposite feeling about that. Found the quiet on my first solo trip really weird too, but now I crave it. It stops being empty space and starts feeling like peace. Took a few tries to get there though. Your brain has to unlearn always having noise and people around. Once it does, the silence just feels like room to breathe.

After a week alone in a cabin last winter, I saw silence isn't just empty or peaceful. It changes with your mood, sometimes heavy before it gets light. So maybe it's not about unlearning noise, but learning to hear what's already there.

My first trip was brutal, but @stone.piper is right, it gets easier.
