Had a plumber tell me my shower drain was a ticking time bomb last week

He said the slow draining wasn't just hair, it was years of soap scum building up and cracking the pipes. Cost me $450 to have them snaked and inspected, but now it actually drains in under 10 seconds. Anyone else ignore their drains for way too long?

Wait, did they actually find cracks in the pipes or just buildup? I let my tub drain get real bad once, like standing water for 20 minutes after a shower. Finally caved and bought one of those plastic snakes from the hardware store for like 8 bucks, pulled out a disgusting ball of hair and gunk. It worked good enough for me, but I bet there's still a bunch of soap scum deeper down that I can't reach. Probably should get a professional to look at it before it actually becomes a problem like yours.

Oh yeah I saw this thing online about how those chemical drain cleaners can actually eat away at old pipes over time, not just the gunk. Might be way better to get a pro before your 8 dollar fix turns into a huge bill.
