Had to choose between paying my car insurance or fixing my AC in July (I picked the AC)

It hit 98 degrees here in Austin three weeks ago and my window unit gave out. I had about $400 set aside for my monthly car payment plus insurance (which is already late, oops). I figured I could either melt in my apartment or risk driving without insurance for a week. So I bought a new window unit for $280 from Home Depot. Now my car's parked until I get paid on Friday and I'm just hoping I don't get a ticket or something. Has anyone else had to pick between two bills that both felt necessary?

Bro I did the exact same thing last month with my electric bill vs groceries. Chose the AC and ate ramen and peanut butter for two weeks straight. Not my finest moment but at least I could sleep without sweating through my sheets, you know?
