I laughed at the guy who said he line dries everything including towels. Now I'm that guy.

My energy bill hit $210 last August and I was about to lose it. A buddy at work kept saying his electric bill was only $80 because he hangs everything on a rack in his basement. I thought he was exaggerating until I tried it with just my jeans and t-shirts for two weeks. The bill dropped by $45 and honestly the clothes feel way less scratchy. Has anyone else found a random money saver like this that actually worked?

Did you try switching to cold water washes too?

Absolutely try the cold water thing too. I switched all my washes to cold except for sheets and towels and my bill dropped another 15 bucks or so. The BEST part is my dark t-shirts actually stay dark now instead of fading into that weird washed out gray after three months. It also helps with the whole scratchy towel thing since hot water beats up the fabric over time.

That $45 drop is wild but now you've got me wondering if @bens81 is just rubbing it in with the cold water thing. I already do cold for everything except towels and whites, so maybe he's onto something with the full switch. My dark clothes last way longer now, but I'm not convinced my underwear needs to be pampered like that. Honestly, the scratchy towel thing is what got me to try line drying too - who knew dryer sheets were just covering up the damage we were doing to the fabric? Your buddy was right about the basement rack though, that's the real hack.
