PSA: I used to think budgeting apps were a total scam for suckers.
My buddy in Phoenix swore by YNAB for a year, but I figured it was just another way to sell data. After my checking account dipped below $50 three months in a row, I caved and tried it, and seeing every single dollar from my last paycheck get a job completely changed my stress level. What's something you were totally wrong about that actually helped you get your stuff together?

Honestly I tried YNAB for a full six months and it just made me feel worse about money. Seeing every dollar assigned felt like a prison sentence for my paycheck. Tbh a simple spreadsheet on my laptop works way better for me, it's free and I control it. The app just added another layer of guilt I didn't need.

Totally get that. Some tools just add stress instead of taking it away. If a spreadsheet works for you, that's the right system.

Felt the same way about needing to track every dollar, it seemed like a hassle. What changed for me was getting hit with a surprise car repair that wiped me out. Giving each dollar a job stopped being about control and started being about knowing I had money set aside for those bad months. The stress of not knowing where my money was going was worse than the few minutes it takes to plan it. Now I see it as buying peace of mind instead of just tracking numbers.
