Ran into my old neighbor Dave at the grocery store last Tuesday and he spent 10 minutes trying to convince me that vacuuming your lawn once a month keeps the weeds away.
I stood there holding a bag of onions while he explained how a shop vac with a wide attachment can 'suck the bad seeds right out of the soil,' and now I have to decide if he's genuinely onto something or just lost it after retiring from the post office.

Oh man, that's not how weeds work. You can vacuum up the top part of the weed but the roots are still in the ground, so they'll just grow back.
Plus a shop vac is gonna blow half that weed seed back out the exhaust anyway. Dave might need to stick to sorting mail.

Totally agree about the seeds... I tried the shop vac trick in my backyard last spring and all I did was spread dandelion seeds everywhere. Ended up with twice as many weeds the next month. What finally worked for me was getting a cheap propane torch and just burning the tops off, then pouring boiling water on the roots after. It sounds over the top but it actually killed everything for good without chemicals.

You're seriously underestimating how strong a shop vac can be.
