That old guy at the hardware store who fixed my fence with a nail
I was buying a new pack of screws for like $12 and this older guy just said 'put a nail back in the hole and twist, it catches better than a screw.' Tried it on my gate hinge and it worked perfect, saved me the whole trip. Has anyone else gotten random tips from strangers that actually beat the manual?

My dad was an electrician for 40 years and said the best tool in your box is knowing when to ignore the instruction manual. That fence trick works because nails flex where screws snap, learned that the hard way fixing old barn doors.
