The day I realized I was folding fitted sheets completely backwards my whole life

I'm 32 and just last week my girlfriend watched me fold a fitted sheet and she just stopped and stared at me. She said 'babe what are you even doing right now' and I thought I was doing it fine. I've been wrestling with those things for 15 years, getting them into a lumpy ball that barely fits in the linen closet. She showed me this method where you tuck the corners into each other and it took me maybe 90 seconds to get a perfect rectangle. I felt like an absolute fool standing there holding this neat little square thinking about all the hours I wasted fighting elastic corners. Has anyone else had a random adult skill hit them late like this where you realize you've been doing a basic thing wrong for decades?

Reckon you were probably getting the job done well enough without turning it into a whole production.

Oh man I feel your pain @terry_wood51, and yeah you're not wrong that a ball still works fine, but once you learn the corner tuck method it changes everything. I was 28 when my mom showed me the fitted sheet trick and I felt like a total idiot standing there with this perfect square in my hands. I had spent so many years just cramming those things into a closet hoping nobody would open it. It's wild how something so simple can make you question all the other little things you might be doing the hard way for no reason.
