TIL that my 'nonstick' pans are basically a scam after 11 months

I was cleaning my favorite frying pan the other night and noticed the coating was flaking off into the sink. Looked it up online and found out most nonstick pans are only supposed to last about a year if you're lucky. I spent $40 on this thing thinking it'd be a long term buy. Anyone else feel robbed by kitchenware marketing?

Did you catch that episode of that cooking show where the guy tested nonstick pans and said most of them start breaking down after like 8 months of regular use? Yeah, I remember watching that and thinking my own pans were probably doing the same thing. It's crazy how they market these things as durable when they're really just temporary tools.

@keithbennett is right about nonstick pans not lasting as long as people think. The real giveaway is when food starts sticking in the middle but not the edges, that means the coating is already wearing thin. Cast iron is annoying to maintain but at least it doesn't quit on you after a year.

11 months is longer than my last three relationships combined but @keithbennett probably has a point.
