Remember when agency partnerships meant actual handshake deals?

Honestly, I miss when I could partner with another agency just based on a handshake and a shared client. Saw it change around 2019 when that big media agency started demanding formal contracts for everything, even a $500 referral. Has anyone else noticed that trust has gone out the window in these deals?

Ugh, right? Has the size of the deal really changed how people treat the relationship, or is it just that everyone's scared of getting burned now? I'm genuinely curious if it's a trust issue or a legal one.

Oh man, tell me about it! I honestly think it might be a bit of both, but mostly the trust thing. Speaking from experience, I once got burned so bad over a tiny deal with a friend that I still get nervous when someone asks me to borrow $20. So if it's a huge deal, I can only imagine the paranoia kicking in ten times worse. It's like, are people being careful because the money is real, or because they've been let down before and now it's just a reflex?
