Shoutout to the agency owner who told me scaling takes 18 months minimum

I used to think I could partner a new vendor into my agency's roster and see profit within 3 months. That was Naive. One specific problem with a data analytics partner took me 9 months just to align their reporting with our client dashboards. The actual integration and training phase hit month 14 before we saw any real revenue from the partnership. A buddy of mine who runs a 40-person shop in Austin said he budgets 18 months for any new partnership to break even. Has anyone else found that even with perfect onboarding, these timelines just stretch way past what you plan?

Throw away your gantt charts and start treating partnerships like a separate sales pipeline. The real drag isn't setup, it's convincing your own team to sell something new without giving up their existing commissions.

Wait... so how do you actually track that pipeline without messing up their existing comp plans?
