The big agency partner we had for 2 years quietly killed our smallest client's growth

Last month I finally looked back at the numbers from when we brought on a big fancy agency partner for our smallest client. Before that partnership, we were doing okay on our own, organic growth was slow but steady. After they came in, the client's monthly leads actually dropped by 40% over six months. I thought it was just a rough patch, but the agency kept pushing their own strategy without listening to what we knew about the local market. Turns out their general playbook didn't fit a niche business in a small city like Des Moines. I ended up cutting ties with them last week and we are rebuilding from scratch. Has anyone else seen a big agency partner actually hurt a smaller account instead of helping?

Did you ever check if they were using the same copy for ALL their clients?

Yeah, that's a great point. I'd bet money most of those fly-by-night shops are just swapping out a name and calling it a day. They probably have a template with like five variations and just pick whichever one fits. It's lazy but it saves them time so who cares about quality, right? You gotta wonder how many people actually get tricked by that.
