The retainer vs. project fee dilemma I ran into with a Denver startup

I had to choose between locking them into a $4k monthly retainer or billing per project for their SEO work. I went with the retainer option because they needed consistent link building every month. So far it's working great for cash flow but I'm worried about scope creep - has anyone else seen retainers get out of hand after the first quarter?

Respectfully disagree with @jessicac28, a good client relationship handles scope creep naturally lol.

That "scope creep after the first quarter" thing is real. I started including a clear list of what was in and out of the retainer in the contract, saved me a headache later.
