Why does everyone pitch the same 5 services when the client asked for something else entirely
Sat in on a pitch last Tuesday where the client literally said they needed help with retention, not new client acquisition. Three agencies stood up and talked about their awesome lead gen funnels. Nobody addressed the retention piece. I get that agencies push what they're good at, but it felt like watching someone answer a question nobody asked. Maybe it's just me, but shouldn't the first slide mirror their actual words? Has anyone else sat through these mismatched pitches and wondered if the agencies even read the brief or are they just recycling their standard deck?
Last month I watched a guy present a 47 slide deck to a client who runs a tiny bike shop, and slide 12 was all about TikTok ads when the dude barely has a Facebook page. I've done the same dumb thing myself, pitched my go to package instead of listening because I was scared of saying "I don't know" out loud. But the brief is right there in writing, so taking 10 minutes to swap your slides around seems like the bare minimum. Three agencies in one room all ignoring retention is just lazy, not a strategy problem.
