Forgot to preheat my air fryer and ended up with raw chicken nuggets that looked golden but were cold in the middle

Was rushing to feed my kids after soccer practice last Tuesday in Phoenix and just tossed frozen nuggets in without waiting for the preheat beep, now I got two sad kids eating microwaved leftovers and I'm wondering if anyone else has done this dumb mistake or if it's just me.

That preheat beep exists for a reason and it's rough learning that lesson with two hungry kids staring at you. Did you check the air fryer manual after that disaster to see if there's a quick cheat setting for frozen stuff? Some models have a frozen food button that ignores the preheat step entirely. I burned the roof of my mouth on a hot nugget once and then had cold ones the next time, so I feel your pain on the uneven cooking thing. The golden outside tricking us is the worst part because you think you nailed it until that first bite.

Oh man, the golden outside is a total liar... I've definitely sat down all proud with what I thought was a perfect batch only to bite into a frozen center. It's like the air fryer just wants to mess with us.

Is it bad that I've learned to do the "poke test" with a fork on frozen stuff now because of this exact problem, @masonbell? I pretend I'm a chef checking doneness but really I'm just hoping I don't serve a popsicle on a plate again. The golden crust is the ultimate trick, like a pretty wrapper on a candy that's actually just disappointment.
