I was sure frozen fries would beat my homemade ones in the air fryer, but after a side-by-side test with a bag of Ore-Ida and some russets I cut myself, the fresh ones were crispier and less salty.
Has anyone else found a specific brand of frozen fries that actually holds up against homemade in the air fryer, or is it just not worth the box?

Totally agree! I've wasted so much money trying to find a frozen brand that works. @faithwalker nailed it about that soggy middle, it's the worst. Even the fancy ones in the fancy bag just taste fake. Peeling and cutting a potato is a pain but man, the crunch is so much better. I'm done with the freezer aisle for fries.

Faithwalker has a point about that weird coating. Have you tried the ones that are just potato, oil, and salt?

Honestly that tracks, the frozen ones always seem to have a weird coating that never gets as crisp as real potato. Tried a few of the fancy "extra crispy" brands and they still come out kinda soggy in the middle. The texture is just off compared to fresh cut. Might save ten minutes but the taste isn't even close.
