My friend told me to skip the oil spray for my air fryer fries...

She insisted they'd get crispy anyway, but my first batch came out dry and stuck to the basket. I tried her way three times before giving up and going back to a light spray. Does anyone have a trick for getting them crisp without the oil?

Sticking to the basket is the worst. I had the same thing happen with potato wedges. They looked like sad little fossils glued to the rack. A tiny bit of oil from a spray bottle makes all the difference for that crunch. Some people just have magic air fryers, I guess.

That "magic air fryer" line made me smile, but honestly, I don't think it's magic. In my experience, the preheat is the real game changer. If you put food on a cold basket, it just bonds to the metal. I always run it empty for a few minutes first. The oil spray helps for sure, but a hot basket stops most sticking before it starts. Your wedges won't get a chance to become fossils.
