Question about frozen french fries in the air fryer

I mean, I used to just throw them in for 15 minutes and they'd come out kinda soggy and pale. Then I saw a tip online to soak them in cold water for 30 minutes before cooking, and after I tried that, they got super crispy and golden. Is that a normal step or did I just get lucky?

Oh interesting, I had the opposite problem with frozen onion rings. I found if I gave them a light spray of oil and shook the basket twice during cooking, they crisped up perfectly without any soaking. Maybe it depends on the brand.

Which brand were you using that worked so well? The ones I tried just got soggy no matter what I did. Maybe I need to switch it up.

Honestly I thought the same thing until I tried the Alexia brand. They have this batter that just stays crisp, even if you don't do anything special. It totally changed my mind about frozen onion rings.
