Shoutout to my dad for convincing me to preheat the air fryer for 5 minutes before cooking

Had a conversation with my dad last weekend about air fryer recipes. He's been using one for like 2 years and swears by preheating it for a full 5 minutes before putting anything in. I always thought that was just for ovens and air fryers don't need it. But he insisted it makes a difference with frozen chicken tenders and fries. So I tested it out last Tuesday with some frozen fish sticks at 400 degrees. The preheated batch came out way crispier on the outside but still moist inside, while the non-preheated ones were kind of soggy on one side. Now I'm wondering if I've been missing out on better results this whole time. Has anyone else compared preheating vs not for frozen stuff, or is it just a waste of electricity?

Honestly, did you notice a huge difference in the fries being soggier without the preheat?

Did you try shaking the basket halfway through on both batches, or just let them sit the whole time? I feel like that could change things.
