That Tuesday I tried to air fry frozen chicken wings without patting them dry first

They came out like rubbery steam bombs because all the ice crystals turned to water in the basket. Has anyone else ruined a batch by skipping the paper towel step?

My buddy did that once and his kitchen looked like a steam room disaster.

Disagree actually. I've done this a few times and the key is keeping the heat low and pulling it off at the first sign of steam. You don't want it billowing out, just a little wisp. If your buddy had that much steam, he probably let it go too long or had the burner cranked too high. I've gotten a nice crust on the outside with a tender inside, no soggy mess.
