The time my air fryer survived a family reunion potluck disaster
I brought my air fryer to my cousin's BBQ in Phoenix last summer because I was tired of soggy fries from the cooler... three separate relatives tried to cram a whole chicken in there at once and the thing almost flew off the table. After watching my uncle nearly melt the cord by draping it over a hot grill I finally learned to just keep the unit on a designated counter away from chaos. Has anyone else had to rescue their air fryer from a family event gone wrong?

That 4 pound limit is exactly why my cousin broke his basket hinge trying to jam a roaster in there.

Wait, are we sure the cord melted or just got a little soft? Heat damage on those cords usually looks way worse than it actually is, plus most modern air fryers have that heat-resistant coating around the plug end. Your uncle definitely should not have done that, but I bet the real danger was the whole chicken situation. You cannot fit a whole bird in a standard basket air fryer without breaking the thing, those models max out at maybe 4 pounds tops. Next time just bring a separate extension cord rated for outdoor use and claim a spot near the outlet before anyone else does.

That heat-resistant coating can still fail if the cord is pinched near a hot surface though.
