Tried making frozen chicken wings at 400 for 20 minutes and got smoke everywhere

I threw in a bag of frozen wings from Costco without thawing, set it to 400 for 20 minutes, and my whole kitchen filled with smoke. I guess the extra moisture and grease just went wild. Anyone found a good temp and time for frozen wings without setting off the smoke alarm?

...which is funny because I had a buddy who tried to microwave frozen wings once and the bag literally caught fire. Not the wings, the bag. He was trying to thaw them fast and forgot to take the plastic off. Whole microwave smelled like burnt garbage for a week. I guess the point is frozen wings are kind of a trap no matter how you go at them. Water and grease just don't mix in an oven unless you really plan it out.

...yeah see I gotta disagree with you on this one. Frozen wings at 400 for 20 minutes is almost always gonna smoke up your kitchen no matter what you do. The issue isn't really the temp or the time, it's that frozen wings have a ton of excess ice and moisture that turns into steam and then hits that hot grease. You gotta thaw them first in the fridge overnight, pat them dry with paper towels, then season them. Once they're dry, 400 will still smoke a bit but nothing like what you dealt with. Otherwise you're basically steaming and frying at the same time and that's a recipe for a fire alarm party.
