Vent: I used to think air fryers were just tiny ovens, but a visit to my sister's house changed my mind
I went to my sister Maria's place last Saturday for a get together, and she was making chicken wings in her air fryer. I always thought they were just a gimmick, like a smaller convection oven that takes up counter space. But she showed me how she got the skin super crispy in 20 minutes without any oil pooling up, and I had to admit I was wrong. She even made frozen mozzarella sticks that came out way better than my oven ever does, no sogginess at all. I ended up buying a cheap one on sale for $40 that afternoon, and so far I've made fries and salmon in it. Has anyone else switched over after seeing one in action at a friend's place?

The trick is preheating it for a full 5 minutes before you put anything in, makes a huge difference on crispy results. Also don't overcrowd the basket or you'll just steam everything instead.

Preheating is non-negotiable, learned that the hard way after a few batches of sad soggy fries. And yeah, single layer only or you might as well just use the oven.
