Appreciation post: the old timer who showed me how to read a spark plug gap with just a feeler gauge
Saw a guy at work last week try to gap a plug on a Cessna 172 by eyeballing it against the hangar light and I had to stop him before he put it back in and ruined the whole cylinder, just use the manual and a feeler gauge every time.

Read a post on an aviation forum where a guy said he'd been gapping plugs by feel for 20 years and never had an issue. That's fine for a lawnmower maybe, but on an aircraft engine you want that gap exactly right every time. Feeler gauges cost like 5 bucks and take 30 seconds to use, no excuse not to. Old timers who pass down that kind of attention to detail are worth their weight in gold.

Nah, feel gapping is more consistent than feeler gauges if you've done it long enough.
