Borescope battery hack that kept my Friday inspection on schedule
Last Friday I had a 60-minute window to inspect a turbine blade on a CFM56 and my borescope died at 25%. The charger was in the truck, 15 minutes away. I remembered an old trick from my first lead: carry two 18650 cells in a plastic tube in your bag. Swapped them out, got the full 45 minutes of video and still finished before the engine was due back. That spare set cost me $18 on Amazon and has saved me three times since. Why do tool vendors charge $200 for a replacement battery pack when you can rebuild it for a fraction? Anyone else keep spare cells for their scopes, or do you just trust the factory battery?

Man, that takes me back. Once I spent an hour hunting down a phantom vibration in a pump housing, turns out a loose cable was tapping the case, not a bearing going bad. I had three different battery packs with me and none of them fit right, so I ended up taping a 9-volt to the leads just to get a reading. Those little rebuildable cells are the unsung heroes of this trade, for real. You ever try the foil trick to shim a loose battery contact? It works about half the time and the other half you smell burning plastic and panic. I swear the factory packs are just overpriced paperweights with a logo stamped on them.
