How a simple question from my kid changed my approach to sharing my work

I always figured my family wouldn't get my aircraft mechanic stories (like detailing a turbine blade fix). So I kept quiet about my day. But then my son saw a plane on TV and asked how it stays up. I told him about lift and how we check the wings for damage. His interest really caught me off guard. Now, I share bits from work, like when I helped figure out a landing gear issue. It's become a cool way to bond (he even draws planes now). I was wrong to think my trade was just for the hangar.

But what if they really don't care about the boring stuff?

People often assume others won't care, but real connection starts when we share the ordinary stuff.

Hold on, @val_kim, isn't that putting a lot of pressure on every boring chat? I get the idea, but some ordinary stuff is just plain dull. If I tell you about my weird grocery list or the exact step count of my walk, is that really building a connection or just filling air? Sometimes it feels like we're trying too hard to make small talk into something deep, you know? What if the other person just isn't into hearing about my commute?
