I stopped using safety wire on brake bleeder screws after a 3 week stretch and I'm not going back
For 3 weeks straight every A&P I worked with at our shop in Wichita kept telling me to safety wire the brake bleeder screws on a 737, so I finally tried it. Started using thread sealant instead and cut my leak checks down from 40 minutes to 10. Am I the only one who thinks safety wire on those is just a habit we never questioned?
Funny how a piece of wire is supposed to be the thing keeping us safe, but apparently thread sealant does the job just fine and way faster. Sounds like a whole lot of "we've always done it that way" going around your shop. Three weeks of guys swearing by it and you still beat their time by 30 minutes, that says plenty.
