A homeowner in Tempe told me my wire runs looked like a spider web and now I use a label maker for every single cable.
I was doing a panel upgrade last week and the client pointed out how messy my old zip-tie method was, so I bought a Brady BMP21 and now I label both ends of every wire with the zone number and device type before I even start the run, which honestly saves me so much time during testing (has anyone else switched to a full labeling system and found it actually speeds things up?).

What's the biggest time save you've noticed with the labels, is it mostly during the initial install or later when you have to go back and troubleshoot something? I've been thinking about doing this but worry it'll just add an extra step upfront for no real payoff.

Later when you're in a rush and something breaks, that's when you'll be thanking yourself for doing it.

You said it adds an extra step upfront, and that's the real cost. Most of the time you never even look at the labels again. It feels like busywork for a problem that might not even happen.
