Just overheard a homeowner tell their neighbor that alarm systems are 'way too complicated' after I spent 3 hours dialing in their zone wiring

Dude was standing right there while I traced a short in the back bedroom loop, and he still thinks the industry is the problem, not the fact that his 1990s house has aluminum wiring that's been spliced with copper three different times.

Happens with everything now, people just want it to work without learning the basics.

Isn't it funny how one bad job can totally flip your perspective? I used to be one of those "just want it to work" people myself, thought alarms were overcomplicated and tech guys were just showing off. But then I had to troubleshoot my own home system after a lightning strike fried the control board. Spent a Saturday reading manuals, tracing wires, and finally understanding why zones are set up the way they are. That experience made me realize there's usually a good reason for the complexity, even if it looks like unnecessary hassle from the outside. Now I'm a lot more patient with installers and their "overcomplicated" setups.
