Just wasted $150 on a 'universal' wireless sensor tester that couldn't read half my common frequencies.

Universal gear is such a gamble these days. They slap that label on anything to make a quick sale. You really need a dedicated tool for the specific frequency bands you work with most. My shop learned that the hard way after a few bad buys. Now we just rent the high-end testers for the odd jobs. It costs more upfront but saves the headache of useless equipment.

Ugh, that's the worst. Terry's totally right about renting for the weird one-off jobs. We even started a shared spreadsheet with a couple other local shops to split rental costs on the super niche gear. Makes it way cheaper per job and we all get access to tools we'd never buy.

Wait, you guys actually trust each other with a shared spreadsheet? That's wild. @jordang32, my old crew would have "forgotten" to log half the rentals. Sounds like you found a solid group. Renting is the only way for that one-time weird stuff. Saves the storage headache too.
