My old boss in Tampa insisted we never use wireless sensors on exterior doors, but after installing a Honeywell system with their 5800MINI transmitters on a client's metal frame patio doors last month, the signal has been rock solid for 6 weeks.
What's the worst piece of 'always' or 'never' advice you've gotten proven wrong on a job?

Honestly that "never use wireless on exterior doors" rule is so outdated. Got the same advice from an old timer years ago. Modern transmitters with good batteries and the right placement just work. Had a client with a steel commercial door running a 345MHz sensor for over two years now, zero drops. Sometimes the old rules just don't fit the new tech.

Totally agree, that old rule needs to die. It's like saying never use a cell phone because a pay phone from 1998 was unreliable. Battery tech and signal strength have come so far. Sticking to rigid rules like that just holds back better, cleaner installs for clients who don't want wires everywhere.

Forgetting about signal interference from new building materials is a real risk, derekward.
