Question about using a 12V power supply for a 24V panel
I keep seeing guys in our shop hook up a standard 12V transformer to a panel that clearly says 24V DC on the label. They say it 'works fine' for a basic test. But last week, a system in a Glendale office building had sensor faults after install, and I'm sure it's because the panel wasn't getting enough voltage during setup. The manual for the DSC Neo says you need the full 24V for stable comms. Are we creating future service calls by being lazy, or is a quick 12V test really harmless?

That DSC Neo manual is very clear about the 24V requirement. I've seen low voltage cause weird comms errors that only show up later. Honestly, skipping the right transformer just sets up a callback.

My old boss ran those panels on 18 volts for years without a single callback.

Guess he was just really lucky with his magic low voltage panels.
