Hit 500,000 API calls on my sandbox and the rate limit made me feel like a rookie

Last Tuesday I was stress testing a webhook endpoint for a client in Austin. I pushed 500,000 requests over 4 hours, mostly to see where the auth middleware would crack. Instead of a clean failure, my own rate limiter kicked in at 499,983 and started returning 429s for everything, including my admin token. The whole point was to find gaps, but I spent 2 hours untangling my own throttle logic before I even looked at the actual API. Has anyone else had their own guardrails trip them up during a load test, or is it just me who forgets the dog can bite?
