Aunt's axe-and-jeans tree days are long gone

She'd laugh at our harnesses and helmets. I'm glad for the safety, but I miss how easy it was back then.

Yeah, that casual feel is gone for good. I keep my old boots unlaced and ready by the door to grab a bit of that speed. The rules are just part of the job now, like it or not.

My version of that speed usually ends with me tripping over the laces.

Disagree about the rules being set in stone. Found that tightening up the lacing pattern on my newer boots actually shaved seconds off my time. The structure helps more than it hurts once you get used to it.
