Finally tried a proper climbing line after years on that old three-strand
I had this big white oak removal in Cedar Rapids last week and decided to use my new 11mm double braid line instead of my usual workhorse. The difference was night and day. The new line ran through the pulley so much smoother, and I could feel every little bit of friction when setting my friction saver. It just made the whole climb feel more controlled and less tiring. Anyone else have a piece of gear they switched to that felt like a real upgrade?

Honestly, I miss the old three-strand sometimes. That stiff lay was predictable, and it never got those weird little burrs that catch on everything. I've had slick double braid just slip in a hitch when it got a bit damp, which never happened with the old rope. Sure, it's heavier, but that weight actually helped me feel the rope's position in the canopy without even looking down. New gear isn't always better gear.

That old three-strand on my big saw felt like dragging a wet rope through the blocks. Switched to a 12mm climbing line last season and the weight difference alone saved my arms on long conifer removals. It just sits in the hitch better, so I'm not constantly re-setting my position. Honestly felt like I got a half-day's energy back just from the gear change.
