My rope snap sent a 200 pound limb through a client's gazebo

Tuesday afternoon I was taking down a big oak in a backyard near Maplewood, and I thought I had the rigging all set. The rope was old, I knew it, but I figured one more cut would be fine. The limb broke loose and swung right into a gazebo the homeowner had just stained last week. It took out two posts and a corner of the roof, and the client just stood there with his coffee cup, not saying a word. I ended up patching it with some temporary bracing and offering to rebuild the whole thing at cost, but has anyone else had a load shift in a way that felt completely avoidable after the fact?

Honestly, is a couple of busted posts and a torn roof really that big of a deal? You already patched it up, and offering to rebuild it at cost seems like you're giving away your time for free. Most homeowners would just file an insurance claim and move on with their lives. I mean, the tree came down without anyone getting hurt, so that's the win right there. You're probably beating yourself up way more than the client actually cares.
