Overheard a guy in Tulsa talking about tree topping and it scared me

I was grabbing coffee at a Pilot in Tulsa last Tuesday and heard this landscaper bragging about topping a 60-foot oak for a client. Said he chopped off the top 30 feet because the owner was scared of it falling on their house. I wanted to walk over and tell him that just makes the tree more dangerous long term, but he was with three other guys. Any of you run into homeowners demanding topping even after you explain the risks?

I get where you're coming from but I see it a little different. A lot of homeowners just don't know any better. They hear tree topping and think it's like cutting back a bush, not realizing it ruins the tree's structure forever. That landscaper might have been trying to make a quick buck instead of educating the guy. If I'd been there I would have said something, even if I got dirty looks. Better a few awkward moments than that poor oak splitting apart during a storm and crushing a car or worse.

Three years later that tree's still gonna be a hazard though.
