Rethought my stance on stump grinding after a chat with an old timer

I've always told clients to leave stumps alone, figured grinding was a waste of money and disturbed the soil too much. Last week a retired arborist in Ohio told me he's seen stumps rot and cave into sinkholes under patios after 10 years, and that changed how I quote removal jobs. Has anyone else reconsidered their advice after hearing a long-term failure story from someone with decades in the field?

Grinding beats waiting ten years for a surprise hole under the patio, that's for sure.
