Thought rope lanyards were a gimmick until last Tuesday in Portland

Had a big maple to climb and my wire lanyard kept snagging on every little branch. Buddy tossed me his rope one and said just try it. Felt like I was back in 1995 or something. But man, that thing flowed around the tree so smooth, no more fighting the cable every time I repositioned. I was dead wrong about them. Anyone else switch and never look back, or is it just a preference thing?
